Martínez was between the posts for Argentina, who have already booked their place in Qatar, as they made it 14 games unbeaten in qualifying, beating Chile 2-1 away from home.

The goalkeeper conceded for the first time in seven qualifiers when Ben Brereton Diaz looped a header over him.

That goal came either side of strikes from Angel Di Maria and Lautaro Martínez, with all the scoring coming in the first half.

Emiliano Buendia had to miss the game after being named as a close contact of Alexis Mac Allister, who contracted Covid-19 earlier this week.

Argentina now have a home game against Colombia on Tuesday, February 1 to look forward to.
