Our Home. Our Future.
Aston Villa Women currently play in the Barclays Women’s Super League, following the club’s promotion from the Championship in 2019-20.
The summer of 2023 led to a record number of season ticket sales, further international signings, and positive recruitment of talented backroom staff.
Villa Women are delighted to call Villa Park home with every Barclays Women's Super League fixture in 2024/25 being played at the club's main stadium. Walsall FC’s Poundland Bescot Stadium will serve as a secondary venue and host any remaining fixtures.
In charge of the Villans is Head Coach Natalia Arroyo, announced in January 2025, on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Aston Villa Women continue to show their whole-hearted commitment to its development off the field as well as within its FA Professional Game Academy and Emerging Talent Centre.
History of Villa Women
Villa Women were formed in 1973, and have been the officially licensed women’s team of Aston Villa Football Club since 1996.
The team competed in the second tier Northern Division, before being promoted twice to play their trade in the FA Women’s Premier League National Division in both the 1999/00 and 2003/04 seasons, but were relegated at the end of both seasons respectively.
Winning the Northern Division for the fourth time in 2011 led to promotion to the Women’s Premier League National Division, which had now become the second tier below the FA Women’s Super League.
The greatest achievement for the club then occurred on May 5th 2013, when the team secured their first ever trophy, the Women’s Premier League Cup. The following year in 2014 saw Villa elected as one of the ten teams to form WSL2, then in 2018 the Women’s Championship.
After the 2019-20 season was ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The FA confirmed that Gemma Davies' team had been awarded the title and promotion to the Women's Super League.
The 2020-21 season marked the first time since 2004 that the women’s team have been represented in the top flight of women’s football. The club continued their progression during the 2021-22 campaign with a 9th place finish in the WSL under Carla Ward.
Villa then secured their best-ever season in 2022-23 with a 5th place finish in the WSL, an FA Cup run to the semi-final and a league cup run to the latter stages. The last of Ward's reign, the club's 2023-24 season placed Villa in 7th in the WSL, alongside a semi-final appearance in the league cup.
