Aston Villa recorded a comfortable win against Wolves in Premier League 2 on Friday afternoon.

Kaine Hayden got the ball rolling with an early goal before Louie Barry doubled the lead with a penalty in first half stoppage time.

After the break, Villa captain Hayden got his second when he finished off a flowing team move before Aaron Ramsey put the finishing touches on a thumping victory.

The game was just over a minute old when Villa fashioned their first chance of the afternoon, with Hayden blazing a great chance over the bar following a neat combination between Barry and Ramsey down the right.

The marauding full-back didn’t have to wait too much longer before finding the net, latching onto Chukwuemeka’s through ball and slotting past the ‘keeper.

Jed Steer was given a runout alongside Wesley and the goalkeeper made a sharp save to preserve the hosts’ lead, getting down smartly to palm away a driven effort.

Villa were dominating possession, but when Wolves countered all of their best moments came through winger Theo Corbeanu, who saw his good work spurned after 20 minutes when Austin Samules headed wide from five yards out.

Samules was denied once again when Steer made a superb save after an errant pass from Myles Sohna had teed him up on the edge of the box.

Jaden Philogene-Bidace had watched most of Villa’s play go down the right side, but he burst into life on 40 minutes when he sent a shot against the crossbar via a deflection.

The home side did find a second goal in first half stoppage time, with Barry sending the ‘keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot after Chukwuemeka had been fouled.

Corbeanu started the second half as the visitor’s main attacking threat, skipping past a tackle on the right before cutting in and shooting straight at Steer.

Villa struggled to find their rhythm going forward early in the second half, but a swift counter-attack nearly resulted in the third goal after 62 minutes when Charlie Farr’s effort was tipped wide.

Minutes later Hayden was handed the chance to score his second via an Arjan Raikhy through ball, but ‘keeper Jackson Smith stood tall and blocked his shot.

The defender was proving his attacking credentials and he netted his second of the game when he finished off a probing Villa move.

With the game winding down, Hayden had a chance to go for his hat-trick but he unselfishly pulled the ball back for Ramsey to tap home.
