Robin Olsen spoke of his pride and happiness after Aston Villa’s 1-0 victory at Brentford.

The goalkeeper was handed his first Premier League start since last May in the absence of Emi Martínez.

And Olsen put in a solid display at Gtech Community Stadium to help Villa to a third consecutive victory in all competitions.

Ollie Watkins’ 14th goal of the season early in the second half proved the difference as Unai Emery’s side claimed a hard-fought three points in west London.

“I’m so happy,” Olsen told VillaTV.

“I’m so proud of the boys and the team, we knew that it’s a really tough away game.

“We knew that we had to play at our best, so we did everything we spoke about before the game.

“I’m just so pleased and proud of the team.”

The Villans have now lost just one of their previous eight in all competitions as they celebrated their first away league win, and top-flight clean sheet, since mid-January.

Olsen added: “It’s never easy to have a one-nil lead, I knew they would push us a little bit more.

“We were struggling a little bit but we defended our box brilliantly.

“We deserved this clean sheet and those three points.”

Watkins’ winner was his sixth goal in his last six meetings against his former club, as the Villans recorded a first league double over the west London outfit since 1946/47.

And there were special scenes at the full-time whistle, showcasing strong togetherness, as Olsen’s impressive contribution was celebrated together by his team-mates and the travelling Villa faithful in front of the away end.

“I don’t know what to say, I’m not used to that,” added the ‘keeper as he reflected on the moment.

“Of course, it’s always nice to celebrate with the fans who have travelled down here and supported us for 90 minutes.

“It’s just nice to celebrate with them.”
