Cardiff triumph books quarter-final spot

Aston Villa's best FA Cup run since 2015 continued on Friday night as Unai Emery's squad overcame Cardiff City.

The Championship side were stubborn opponents at Villa Park, keeping the game goalless for 68 minutes.

Marco Asensio opened the scoring before netting his second of the night to put Villa into the last eight.

Ahead of kick-off, both sets of fans paid an emotional tribute to our former midfielder Peter Whittingham, with the clubs meeting for the first time in a competitive fixture since his passing.

The game was also a special one for the returning Anwar El Ghazi and Callum Robinson, who lined up for the Bluebirds.
