Aston Villa have been drawn in Southern Group F of this season's Vertu Trophy, alongside Crawley Town, Leyton Orient and Peterborough United.
Jimmy Shan's side will take on the Red Devils, relegated to League Two last season, as well as League One play-off finalists Orient, and fellow third-tier outfit Peterborough - who have lifted the trophy in each of the past two seasons - as they look to advance into the knockout stages.
The Young Lions reached the last 16 in last season's competition, losing to eventual semi-finalists Bradford City having become the only 'invited' under-21 side to make it past the group stage and into the knockout phase, before overcoming Blackpool 18-17 in a thrilling round of 32 penalty shoot-out.
All three ties are set to be played away from home, with full fixture and ticketing details to be confirmed in due course.
