Wednesday's opponents pose a tricky challenge to Carla Ward's side.

Sunderland have emerged as a true contender for the Women's Championship title, currently sitting one point behind leaders Charlton Athletic.

As for The Lasses' Conti Cup campaign, their fate is in their own hands heading into matchday four.

Seven points from three games has left Melanie Reay's team needing a win inside 90 minutes on Wednesday to progress to the last eight as group winners.

However, they could still qualify as one of the two-best second place teams, depending on how other results go.

The Last Meeting

These two sides met at the same stage of the competition two seasons ago, with Villa running out 7-0 winners.

The result would prove to be in vain as we failed to progress from Group A, but the win was a welcome one.

Laura Blindkilde Brown netted her first senior goal inside the opening minute before Ramona Petzelberger notched on 10 minutes.

Braces from Remi Allen and Alisha Lehmann added some gloss to the scoreline, while Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah also bagged.
