Aston Villa struck twice in injury time to see off Sutton Coldfield Town 3-1 and book their place in the fourth round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

Teddy Rowe pounced in the 92nd minute to fire the visitors in front at Coles Lane, while fellow substitute Aidan Borland then tapped home to put the seal on progress to the last eight of the competition.

Villa’s Under-21s took the lead in the 55th minute courtesy of Rico Richards’ superb 30-yard strike, only for Town to level through Taylor Carter-Byrne before the visitors struck late on.

The Young Lions, who saw off Atherstone Town in the second round, are bidding to win the Birmingham Senior Cup for the first time since 1985.

Villa enjoyed the better of the first half and went close early on through Richards’ long-range strike.

Lamare Bogarde was denied by Town goalkeeper Jonathan Brown, before Ben Broggio’s volley was kept out and Richards again threatened for the visitors, yet it remained goalless at the break.

The Villans finally secured the breakthrough 10 minutes after the restart as the lively Richards cut inside and curled a stunning left-footed long-range strike into the top corner.

But the home side duly equalised in the 74th minute as Carter-Byrne headed in a deep free-kick at the far post.

Tommi O’Reilly hit the crossbar from distance as Villa threatened an immediate response, but they had to wait until deep into added time as sub Rowe connected with Jamaldeen Jimoh’s cross to the back post.

Sam Proctor pulled off an excellent save to preserve Villa’s advantage, before Borland put the gloss on victory in the 94th minute as he caught Town on the counter-attack and broke clear to slot home into an empty net.
