Jacob Ramsey faces a late fitness test ahead of Aston Villa’s Premier League encounter against Brighton & Hove Albion but Leon Bailey will miss out.

Midfielder Ramsey made his long-awaited return from injury as a second-half substitute in last weekend’s 1-0 victory at Chelsea, but duly sat out of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup exit to Everton.

Forward Bailey hobbled off against the Toffees just after the half-hour mark and, despite not nursing a serious injury, the Jamaica international won’t be fit to face Brighton.

Álex Moreno and Tim Iroegbunam are making progress with their respective recoveries, but Emi Buendía and Tyrone Mings are long-term absentees.

Unai Emery provided a fitness update at Friday’s pre-match media conference.

“Of course, we’ve had injuries to Tyrone and Emiliano Buendía, then we’re having some more injuries and progressively they are coming back,” he said.

“Tim is coming back and training with us.

“Ramsey is still in pain, but we are going to wait until tomorrow, at the last moment, if he can stay on the bench or not.

“Leon Bailey is out, it’s not a big injury, but he’s not ready for tomorrow.

“Álex Moreno is working progressively getting better, and other players I think they are going to be ready.”
