Carla Ward admits her Aston Villa side were beaten by 'the better team' on Sunday evening, as they lost 2-0 to Liverpool at Prenton Park.
The manager watched on as goals from Marie Höbinger and Tash Flint succumbed Villa to consecutive defeats to begin the 2023/24 season.
Jordan Nobbs, Anna Patten and Ebony Salmon all had good chances to find the back of the net and a subsequent route into the game, but Villa left Birkenhead empty-handed.

“They were the better team," Ward said.
"They played with more quality, heart and desire. But it’s on me, I’m the manager.
"I have to get it right and have a look at it to see where it went wrong, and come back making sure we’re better next week.”

Ward attributes Sunday's defeat to a slow start which her side couldn't quite recover from.
She said: “It’s taken us 32 minutes to get into the game, and that’s a problem.
"Sometimes you can have a couple of players off it and the rest pick it up. But we had one too many that were off it tonight.”
