Unai Emery spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon ahead of Aston Villa's upcoming Europa Conference League game against Legia Warszawa.

The club's head coach talked about the importance of the Group E contest, bouncing back from their matchday one defeat in Poland and much more.

Here's what he had to say...

On team news…

Unai Emery.

“Today we were training with everybody, feeling good. We are going to play a lot of matches: tomorrow, Sunday, next week another two matches.

“We have to be very clinical in how we can take minutes with the players. Some players are coming back after their injuries and some players may feel tired after the effort we did on Sunday.

“Tomorrow morning we are going to meet and I’m going to decide how we are.”

On the team’s progress in the Conference League…

Aston Villa hosted AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.

“We started this competition at the beginning, playing against Hibernian, and we did very good work. Then when we were in the group we started against Warszawa and they were really playing well.

“They were feeling strong at home and we lost because we deserved it. For us, it was a very good example of the difficulties of this competition and how hard it is to play in Europe against every team.

“We reacted very well.”

On trying to top Group E…

Unai Emery.

“I don’t know exactly if it’s better that we are not playing those two matches in case we finish second, but of course it’s better to finish first in the group because the consistency we can show doing it is better than not.

“In case we are playing two matches more because we are finishing second, I will accept it.”

On Legia Warszawa…

Legia Warszawa v Aston Villa

“The most difficult competition is the Premier League. Europa Conference League is a new competition for us. Always it’s very difficult in Europe.

“We’ve faced two matches at home where it was very difficult to win. We won both matches at the end of the match, and they were very good examples and experiences for myself, the players and for everybody of the difficulties we are going to face in the match tomorrow and in the competition if we are progressing.

“Tomorrow against Legia Warszawa both teams are going to play trying to take another step ahead in this competition and see who is first in the group.

“We want to face this match trying to get a small amount of revenge for the match we played there, trying to impose our capacity, our skill and our gameplan on the pitch.”
