Aston Villa saw off Atherstone Town 9-8 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out to secure their place in the third round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.
Rico Richards fired Villa ahead midway through the first half, but the Young Lions were pegged back deep into injury time when substitute Jacob Shilton levelled for the hosts.
However, at the end of an absorbing shoot-out, Callum Rudd sent his effort against the crossbar to settle the second-round tie at The GAM Civils Stadium.
Villa were rewarded for their strong first-half showing when Richards slotted home to put the visitors ahead in the 26th minute.
And they stood firm to retain their advantage until late into added time when Shilton scrambled home a leveller for Town in the 94th minute.
The last-gasp equaliser sent the clash to penalties, with Kobei Moore missing Villa’s opening spot-kick before Jack Collins saw his attempt saved.
Richards, Kerr Smith, Finley Munroe, Todd Alcock, Teddy Rowe, Ben Chrisene, Frankie Ealing, Josh Feeney and Kyrie Pierre all scored during the shoot-out, before Rudd sent his spot-kick against the woodwork to see Villa progress into the next round.
