Welcome to the first instalment of Mystery Villans, a new game challenging fans’ knowledge of the club’s former players.
Below you’ll find three sets of clues to help identify three players who’ve pulled on the famous claret and blue.
Once you’ve got your answers, scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter them to see how many you guessed correctly. Simply enter the full name or surname of the player in the relevant box, but beware, you only get one guess for each Villan!

Mystery Villan One
- This player joined Aston Villa in 2004, debuting against Southampton at Villa Park on 14 August that year
- Despite being a defender, he found the net 12 times in 91 appearances for the club, including a brace in a 4-4 draw against Tottenham Hotspur
- Became club captain ahead of the 2008/09 season
Mystery Villan Two
- This player debuted against Liverpool in August 2007 and made his final Villa appearance, which was also against the Reds, on 22 May 2011
- He played 11 times in European competition during his spell as a Villan, scoring in a 3-1 win against Litex Lovech in 2008
- Bolton Wanderers signed the player upon the expiration of his contract at Villa, whom he left after making 124 appearances
Mystery Villan Three
- He was a member of the UEFA Intertoto Cup-winning team in 2001, although he was an unused substitute for the second leg of the final having played in all five previous matches
- This player joined Villa in 1999 and left in 2004 having made 67 appearances for the club
- A Finnish international who won 12 caps for his country
