Now that the Premier League has come to an end, we take a look back on the season through the lens of FPL...

The Gameweek 15 arrival of Unai Emery put Aston Villa assets firmly on the radar of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

From that moment on, people began to invest in the Villans. This was a wise strategy, as the team rose from 16th in the league to a superb seventh-place finish that secured Europa Conference League football for 2023/24.

Highest-scorer

On top was the 175 points of Ollie Watkins (£7.3m), which saw him finish as the fourth-highest-scoring forward in FPL.

These points came courtesy of 15 goals and eight assists (which includes both assists and Fantasy assists) over the whole campaign. Watkins also registered 25 bonus points and was able to bring in three double-digit hauls.

Attacking returns

Fifteen goals from Watkins made him Villa’s top-scorer. Beyond that, Jacob Ramsey (£5.1m) and Douglas Luiz (£4.8m) were second with six goals over the course of the campaign.

For assists, Watkins and Ramsey were joint-top with eight each (assists and Fantasy assists), marginally ahead of Luiz’s seven.

Consistent performers

One of the most important factors for FPL managers is the consistency of starts.

Ezri Konsa (£4.4m) sits on top for being a dependable Aston Villa name, with the defender starting 37 league games across the campaign.

He was closely followed by Watkins and Emi Martinez (£5.0m) who started 36 games each and Tyrone Mings (£4.7m) who made 35 starts.

Defensive solidity

Mings, Konsa and Martinez all collected nine clean sheets over the course of the season, more than Villa’s other defensive players.

Mings also completed more interceptions than any other Villa name, with only three defenders throughout all of FPL bettering his 39.

Between the sticks, Martinez did a great job. He made 224 recoveries when his side needed them and only Brentford’s David Raya (£4.8m) managed more.
