Ezri Konsa is relishing a return to pre-season training as he aims to help Aston Villa build on last season’s success.

A number of Villans were back at Bodymoor Heath on Saturday to begin preparations for the 2023/24 campaign.

Konsa and his teammates have a full week of training ahead before taking on Walsall this weekend as they kick-off the pre-season schedule.

“I’m always eager to play that first game of pre-season,” he said.

“Walsall is a game that we play every year. The fans are going to be there, so I’m looking forward to that as well.”

Fine form under head coach Unai Emery resulted in a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last term, and Konsa says team chemistry was big factor behind their resurgence.

A pre-season trip to America and three games in the Summer Series will help set Villa up for the season ahead.

Konsa said: “Team chemistry I feel is something we’ve already got here and I think that’s shown from last season when the boss came in how close we were together.

“We became a small family, which is something that the boss wanted. Everyone’s looking forward to getting out to America.”

He added: “I just want to carry on from last season.

“Everyone can see how much we improved under the boss and we wanted to take another step ahead this season, starting with three points against Newcastle.”
