Matty Cash is excited by Aston Villa’s prospects in the FA Cup as the squad prepares to face Stevenage in the third round.

Villa welcome the League Two side to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon looking to improve the club's recent fortunes in the competition.

Cash believes the team are capable of putting together a good run in the FA Cup, but he knows they need a strong performance to kick off the campaign against Stevenage.

“The lads know that it’s a big opportunity to have a good run in the FA Cup, which we haven’t done for a while,” he said.

“We want to try and do that and get through to the next round.”

He added: “It’s an important game.

"We need to stick to our gameplan. We’re at home and we’ll have the crowd with us.

“We need to keep doing what we’re doing. Full respect to Stevenage but we need to go out there and get a win.”

Villa will be bidding to reach the fourth round for the first time since 2016 when they take to the pitch against Boro, who have won two games in the cup thus far.

Stevenage’s strong league form, which has taken them to second in League Two, marks them out as a tough opponent, and Cash isn’t taking them lightly.

He said: “I love the FA Cup and hopefully we can have a really good run in it, starting on Sunday.

“It’s going to be a tough game. We’ve got to respect Stevenage because any team can beat anyone.

“Full respect to them and we’re going to go about our game plan and try and get the win.”
