Aston Villa fell to a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Ollie Watkins marked his 100^th appearance for the club with his seventh goal of the season and third in as many games to give Villa hope in the second half.

But the damage was ultimately done before the break as Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez, with a penalty, found the net to leave the visitors facing an uphill task against the Premier League champions.

A much-improved Villa posed City plenty of questions after the break, substitute Jhon Durán thundering an effort against the crossbar, but Villa’s three-match winning sequence on the road came to an end with their first away league defeat under Unai Emery.
