Unai Emery spoke to the media from Bodymoor Heath on Friday afternoon.

Aston Villa's head coach previewed Saturday's Premier League game against Burnley, discussing a number of subjects with the assembled journalists.

Here's what he had to say...

On responding to defeat at Old Trafford…

Aston Villa took on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

“Always we are trying to improve and analyse greatly everything we are doing – sometimes being successful, more than less, thankfully. Sometimes, of course, we are not successful.

“The most important thing is to understand, winning or losing, the structure we want to create tactically and how we want to build our mentality.

“Even losing in Manchester, even drawing against Sheffield, we are being consistent in our way.”

On learning from losses…

Aston Villa took on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

“I am always being demanding of myself to analyse and be successful, even more when we are not [successful].

“In Manchester United, we played 60 minutes like I want – completely like I want.

“When you are facing teams and players like we faced on Tuesday, some mistakes are coming when they are being clinical and scoring goals.”

On the mood in the squad…

Unai Emery.

“The players were frustrated after the last two matches we played. We are analysing and speaking in the meetings we are having about how we have to accept our way; we have to accept the way we are building; we have to accept and respect the opponent.

“We have to feel comfortable and feel demanding seeing the table now that we are finishing the first half of the season. We are third and maybe we could be fourth because Manchester City will play against Brentford. This is a strong motivation for us.

“The frustration is not coming when something is not going like we want. At the end, the result is fair with every team. But to keep this position in the second half of the season is going to be very difficult.

“We have to be strong and we are feeling good like we are playing like we are doing and in the table like we are. We are being demanding and trying to play with these demands.

“The only way is hard work.”

On Burnley…

Burnley v Aston Villa

“I appreciate a lot how they are playing and competing. They are a team that’s adapting everything they need to improve.

“Their style is a strong style, playing with good positioning. They were successful last year in the Championship and they weren’t successful at the beginning of the season in the Premier League.

“They adapted so quickly to the new things tactically that they needed to add. Analysing (Vincent) Kompany and Burnley, it’s going to be a very difficult match.”
