Nicolò Zaniolo’s 97th-minute header secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against Sheffield United as Aston Villa claimed a more than deserved late point.

Zaniolo picked the perfect moment to net his first Premier League goal in claret and blue as he flicked home Douglas Luiz’s cross deep into added time.

The hosts dominated the encounter, enjoying 78 per cent of the possession, but could find no way through a stubborn Blades rearguard, and looked to be heading for defeat after former Villa striker Cameron Archer pounced in the 87th minute.

The draw ended Villa’s 15-match winning sequence in the league at Villa Park, although Unai Emery’s in-form side extended their unbeaten run to 10 games.
