Ashley Young expressed his frustration after Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.

Young netted his first goal in claret and blue since May 2011 as he drilled home a fantastic 25-yard strike to cancel out Emmanuel Dennis’ headed opener.

But it was not enough to claim all three points from an encounter which Villa dominated but were unable to register a winner.

“I think it’s thoughts of frustration,” Young told VillaTV when reflecting on the encounter.

“The amount of possession we had, chances we created, it feels like a loss to be honest.

“It’s definitely two points dropped.

“I think we nullified them to hardly any chances, obviously they got the goal from a set-piece, but other than that it was a good defensive display.

“We created more in the second half but we just couldn’t get that second goal.

“There’s a lot of frustration in the dressing room.”

Aston Villa took on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Monday night.

Young, making his third successive Premier League start, became the club’s second-oldest Premier League goalscorer after Peter Schmeichel.

It was only his second strike in two years following his last for Inter Milan in May 2021.

The experienced wide man, 37, was happy to get on the scoresheet but admitted it would have felt better had Villa claimed all three points at The City Ground.

“I would have enjoyed it more if we had gone on to win the game," he added.

“We needed to get ourselves back in the game, as soon as I saw it dropping, I was going to take a touch and hit it straightaway and luckily for me it went in.

“So it was a nice moment but, like I say, it’s just frustrating we didn’t go on and get the three points.”
