Villa’s goalkeeper continued to be the busier of the two stoppers as the home side tried to extend their lead, with Lewis denying Osman Kamara from close range.

The visitors saw an effort cleared off the line before Arsenal were awarded a penalty in the closing stages.

Ferdinand stepped up but saw his effort strike the post and bounce to safety as the Gunners held on for a 1-0 win.

Next up, Villa have a local derby against West Bromwich Albion to look forward to as they return to Under-18 Premier League action.
