Unai Emery wants every supporter to be proud of the Aston Villa team he creates.

The 51-year-old arrives at Villa Park with a glittering CV, containing 11 major trophies, and a reputation for being meticulous in his tactical approach to each game.

In his first interview with VillaTV, Emery was keen to emphasise how important the club’s fans will be during his tenure.

“I want every supporter to be proud of our work and how we show our capacity on the pitch,” he said.

“I like possession of the ball but when we can progress, being aggressive, attacking the spaces and really playing with energy.

“I was watching our players in the training sessions and previous matches they’ve played, and we have players with energy and good skills.

“Between everybody, we are going to share and achieve our identity and style. We want every supporter to be proud of us.”

Emery left Villarreal to take the head coach role at Villa having guided the Spanish side to the greatest achievement in their history in 2021, winning the Europa League.

The project presented to him by the club’s owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, was one that Emery felt he could not turn down.

The Spaniard’s new challenge begins with a Premier League game against Manchester United on Sunday.

“I’m looking forward to being there with our supporters, I’m wishing to feel them push, the atmosphere,” he said.

“To play at home, for me, it’s so important to create a big atmosphere with our supporters helping us.”
