John McGinn spoke of his frustration after Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley.
Villa enjoyed 71% possession, 22 shots on goal and nine corners but could only claim a point from their final home match of the campaign having found Clarets goalkeeper Nick Pope in inspired form.
It leaves the club 14th in the Premier League table heading into the final weekend of the season.
And speaking post-match at Villa Park, McGinn felt Villa deserved to come away with all three points against Burnley.
“Extremely frustrating,” he told VillaTV.
“It probably sums up our season, a lot of chances to win the game, I think it was a lot more positive than Sunday (1-1 draw against Crystal Palace).
“We created a lot of chances and I think Nick Pope will be man of the match, some great saves.
“We’ve obviously got to work on a lot of things, we know our position in the table isn’t good enough.
“We’re not naïve enough to think it is.
“But here, overall, I think we deserved to win.”
Emi Buendía’s fourth goal of the season early in the second half cancelled out Ashley Barnes’ penalty on the stroke of half-time.
Emi Martínez and captain Tyrone Mings combined to thwart a late winner for Burnley, who saw Matthew Lowton sent off in injury time following a challenge on Calum Chambers.
But it was Pope who stole the headlines with a string of impressive saves throughout.
“It was a good performance in the second half, probably just (needed) a little bit more quality in the final third," McGinn added.
“We’re going to have games like that at Villa Park where away teams are going to sit in, counter-attack on us, get a penalty kick.
“Things like that are going to happen, we need to react better to that, create better chances than we did.
“We did create a lot but create better chances and be a little bit more clinical.”
