Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace on an afternoon when Villa Park celebrated the 40th anniversary of the club’s historic European Cup success.

Ollie Watkins converted his 11th Premier League goal of the season to put Villa ahead in the 69th minute, only for Eagles substitute Jeffrey Schlupp to tap in and level matters nine minutes from time.

Everyone inside Villa Park came together to mark the most memorable night in the club’s history as Villa were crowned champions of Europe in 1982.

Members of Villa’s history-making ‘82 squad were present and given a guard of honour ahead of the fixture before embarking on a lap of appreciation at half-time as Villa supporters, players and staff paid tribute to their incredible achievements.
