Lucas Digne admits he already feels at home at Aston Villa and is enjoying his time at the club as well as the opportunity to play a key role both in attack and defence.

The left-back sat down with VillaTV on Thursday and spoke of his happiness with life at the club and in the area since his January move to the midlands.

Digne has played every minute of the six Premier League matches following his switch to Villa, contributing a crucial matchwinning assist at Everton.

He also delivered the cross from which fellow full-back Matty Cash opened the scoring in last Saturday’s victory at Brighton & Hove Albion, before helping Villa keep a valuable clean sheet at the other end – much to his delight.

“Of course, the gaffer asks us to be a part of the offensive and defensive display and it’s part of our job to do that,” he said.

“I’m really happy to help the team in both sides of the pitch and it’s part of my job that I can enjoy, to play forward and to defend too.”

Asked how much he is enjoying life in Birmingham, Digne replied: “My family is really happy, everybody is happy; and everyone knows that for a player it is really important that if the family is happy then the player will be happy.

“For me, I feel at home here, everybody gave me a big welcome and I just say a big thank you to everybody.”

Victory at the Amex Stadium ensured Steven Gerrard’s side got back to winning ways after successive defeats.

And Digne is now determined to help build on that triumph when Southampton visit Villa Park this Saturday.

It was a big result for us and a big improvement from the team,” he said, reflecting upon the success over the Seagulls.

“We got the win, the three points, we kept a clean sheet.

“And in the Premier League, especially away from home, it’s really difficult, everybody knows that, so it was a big result for us.”

Looking ahead to this weekend, he added: “We’ve prepared for the game since of the beginning of the week.

“The best way to prepare for this game was to win against Brighton and now we are focused on Southampton.

“They are in good form, but I think we have the quality to beat them, and we will do everything to do that.”
