Internationals: Archer makes it four goals in three games

Cameron Archer rounded off the 2021/22 season with another goal on Monday night.

The young striker scored in stoppage time as England Under-21s lost to Slovenia 2-1 in Huddersfield.

Archer came on as a substitute after 61 minutes, with Aston Villa teammate Jacob Ramsey withdrawn at the same time after starting the game.

The goal was Archer’s fourth in his last three games for the Young Lions, who lost their first European Championship qualifier in 11 years.

Despite the defeat, England topped Group G and can look ahead to the 2023 Finals in Romania and Georgia.

Archer ends the campaign having scored 20 goals combined for Villa – at senior and Under-23 level – and on loan at Preston North End.

Boubacar Kamara and Lucas Digne were in Nations League action on Monday.

The duo started as Les Bleus went down to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Croatia, courtesy of a fifth-minute penalty by Luka Modric.

Digne played the full 90 minutes while Kamara was withdrawn at half-time.

The loss leaves France bottom of Group A1 on two points from four games.
