Carney Chukwuemeka, Aaron Ramsey and Tim Iroegbunam all played a part as England won the Under-19 European Championships on Friday.

Israel proved to be tough opponents in an enthralling final, with the Young Lions triumphing 3-1 after extra-time.

Chukwuemeka scored to make it 2-1 after 108 minutes before Ramsey made sure of the victory seven minutes later.

Chukwuemeka, who started all four of the Young Lions’ prior games in the tournament, was selected from the start once again, with Ramsey and Iroegbunam named among the substitutes.

Despite being favourites in Slovakia, England were on the back foot several times during the first half and they eventually fell behind when Oscar Gloukh capped a fine team move after 40 minutes.

England emerged for the second half with greater attacking intent, and they levelled the scores when Callum Doyle poked home from a corner after 52 minutes.

Ian Foster turned to Ramsey as his first substitute on 57 minutes, with the playmaker immediately rekindling his rapport with Chukwuemeka.

Iroegbunam completed the Villa contingent when he entered the fray after 73 minutes, sparking a period of England dominance.

A surging Chukwuemeka glided past a few defenders before curling a shot against the post as the game ticked into the final ten minutes.

The match finished 1-1 and headed into extra-time, where Chukwuemeka’s class proved to be the difference.

The midfielder was in the right place at the right time to bundle the ball home after 108 minutes.

An absorbing game saw Israel continue to threaten before Ramsey thrashed home a third goal with third minutes to play.

Congratulations Carney, Aaron and Tim!
