Danny Ings registered his fourth goal of the season but Aston Villa started the new year with a 2-1 reverse as Brentford hit back to inflict defeat.

Ings converted a well-taken finish to put Villa ahead on their maiden visit to Brentford Community Stadium, yet Yoane Wissa equalised for the Bees from the edge of the penalty area shortly before the break.

The Premier League encounter, which included a welcome return for Trézéguet, looked to heading for a draw until Mads Roerslev completed the turnaround for Brentford late on, firing an 83rd-minute winner in west London.
