The curtain came down on Bertrand Traoré's time at the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday evening.
The Aston Villa winger captained Burkina Faso into a third/fourth place play-off against host nation Cameroon.
Things were looking good for the Burkinabe when they took a 3-0 lead thanks to Steve Yago, Andre Onana's own goal and Djibril Ouattara.
However, Cameroon came roaring back via Stephane Bahoken and a brace from Vincent Aboubakar to force penalties, with no extra-time being played.
Ibrahim Toure was the man to miss for Burkina Faso as they lost 5-3 in the shoot-out.
