Kortney Hause was in the thick of the action as Aston Villa secured a famous win at Old Trafford on Saturday.

After a well-timed near post run, the defender glanced the ball past David de Gea and ran off to celebrate with a jubilant away support as the visitors took the lead after 88 minutes.

Hause was then penalised for handball in stoppage time before Bruno Fernandes blasted the resulting spot kick over the bar, leaving the 26-year-old to revel in a fine victory.

He said: “It’s a massive win for the team. We’ve come away to Old Trafford against Manchester United and it’s a tough place to come against some big players and a big club.

“But we’re Aston Villa and we’ve got some great players as well. We knew we could go toe-to-toe with them and we showed that today.”

He added: “I’m just happy we got the three points, and it was deserved.

“I thought we played really well, stuck to the game plan and had the better chances. I felt it was a deserved win.”

A first win at Old Trafford since 2009 was just reward for a team display that nullified United’s attacking talents and created numerous chances at the other end of the pitch.

The win against a previously unbeaten side may come as a surprise to those outside of the Villa camp, but Hause says the squad believed they could get the three points.

He said: “It comes from the gaffer – he always gives us confidence and says we’re as good as any squad in this league.

“We believe that as well and we showed it today.”
