After scoring the biggest goal of his young career, Cameron Archer was thankful for being given another chance to shine.

The 19-year-old has made a name for himself in the Carabao Cup this season, netting a hat-trick against Barrow before heading home Aston Villa’s equaliser at Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Villa were ultimately knocked out on penalties by the Blues, bringing to an end a competition that has underlined why Archer is involved with the first team.

He said: “It’s given me opportunities and I took them today and against Barrow. Hopefully I can keep getting opportunities.

“It was a great experience in front of 38,000 and it was a crazy feeling scoring.

“I don’t score many headers. I was delighted when I made contact with it and it went into the back of the net.

“It’s amazing when you have that faith from the gaffer. It boosts your confidence even more.”
