Internationals: Mixed emotions for Villans

There were mixed emotions for four of Aston Villa’s internationals during World Cup qualifying on Tuesday.

John McGinn was the only player to emerge victorious with his country, helping Scotland to a 1-0 away success against Faroe Islands.

A draw looked to be on the cards before Lydon Dykes scored after 86 minutes, with McGinn playing the full match.

The win helps solidify Scotland’s position in Group F, leaving them one win away from securing a play-off spot.

Tyrone Mings and Ollie Watkins both featured as England were held to a 1-1 draw by Hungary at Wembley.

Villa captain Mings played the entire game at the back as the Three Lions recovered from going a goal down to draw level through John Stones.

Watkins was introduced as a stoppage time substitute, but the result leaves England needing a further four points from their final two group games to secure automatic qualification.

Marvelous Nakamba’s hopes of featuring at the 2022 World Cup came to an end as Zimbabwe were defeated 1-0 at home by Ghana.

Thomas Partey’s first half strike proved decisive and left Zimbabwe bottom of their group with one point from four matches.
