Aston Villa’s Under-23s battled hard for a point as they played out a goalless draw with Wolves at Bodymoor Heath.

Wolves had the best of the chances, most of which came in the opening stages of each half, including a header from Jack Scott which bounced off the crossbar.

Mark Delaney’s side went into game following their stunning 8-0 win away at Stoke City on Monday night, with Wolves losing 3-1 at home to Sunderland last time out.

Carney Chukwuemeka didn’t feature after scoring a brace earlier in the week, but hat-trick hero Jaden Philogene-Bidace made his second successive PL2 start.

The visitors made a fast start and Jack Hodnett was the first Wolves player to hit the post from a low cut-back.

Chem Campbell then had a good chance on 19 minutes but he couldn’t control his effort and he sliced the shot wide of Filip Marschall’s near post.

Philogene-Bidace showed glimpses of his talent and he had Villa’s best chance of the half, shooting inches wide of the post after picking up a wayward pass.

Like in the first half, Wolves started strongly after the break and Marschall had to save smartly with his feet from Conor Carty’s flicked effort.

Scott then had Wolves’ best chance of the game, looping a header onto the crossbar from a wide free-kick.

The game became scrappy and the chances less frequent as the minutes went on, but Louie Moulden had to be alert to keep hold of a header from one of his teammates in stoppage time.

Delaney's side are now two points off league leaders Fulham after seven games and they are back in action against Burton Albion in the Papa John's Trophy next Tuesday.
