Matt Targett spoke of his delight at helping Aston Villa clinch back-to-back wins and netting his first league goal for over two years.
The left-back put Villa ahead against Crystal Palace with a well-taken strike via a corner from Ashley Young, who, in the process, claimed the record for the club’s all-time leading assists in Premier League history (42).
John McGinn curled home a delightful second late on as the Villans, who conceded in added time, registered a 2-1 victory over the Eagles at Selhurst Park.
Successive victories under head coach Steven Gerrard have lifted Villa up to mid-table and Targett cut a happy figure post-match in the capital.
“Massive win,” he told VillaTV.
“To go back-to-back wins is really important for us, we know how tough the schedule is coming up.
“But it’s very important that when you come to a place like this you give them (Palace) little chances.
“And, most importantly, (it’s) three points.”

Targett bagged his first league goal since grabbing a dramatic last-gasp winner over Brighton & Hove Albion in October 2019.
“Was that how long it was?” he said.
“We spoke about it the other day at the table actually, I was saying I haven’t scored in a while so I’m due one.
“I’m delighted to help the team and it’s always nice to get on the scoresheet.”
