A late equaliser denied Aston Villa's Under-23s victory against Newcastle United at Bodymoor Heath on Sunday.
Mark Delaney's side looked to have secured all three Premier League 2 points thanks to a stunning solo effort from a trialist in the first half, but Tom Allan levelled the scores at 1-1 in the 88th minute.
The first half-chance of the game didn't arrive until the 18th minute, with Tommi O'Reilly's header falling comfortably into the hands of Jake Turner after Dewain Sewell's shot deflected into the air.
From that moment, the contest sparked into life and Taylor-Jay Hart struck inches wide from a tight angle after Michael Tait beat two Newcastle defenders down the left-hand side.
Akos Onódi made a comfortable stop from Christian Atsu soon after, before a moment of individual brilliance brought the opening goal for Villa in the 26th minute.
The sole Villa trialist on the day brought the ball under control superbly just outside the box before shifting it onto his right foot and curling a shot into the far corner beyond Turner.

Newcastle had a good chance to level nine minutes before the break, but Jack Young couldn't direct a free header on target.
The visitors took their momentum into the second half and Bradley Cross headed over the bar with just over an hour played.
Atsu then had a header blocked well by Charlie Farr, before the Villa right-back sent a long-range curling effort just off target at the other end.
Villa dropped deeper as they looked to protect the lead but Newcastle got their equaliser with two minutes of normal time remaining, with Allan tapping home from Atsu's ball across the face of goal.
Jake Walker made a key block in the final minute of stoppage time to preserve a point for Delaney's side, who travel to Newcastle to complete a double-header and their league campaign on Friday night.
