Dreams came true at Villa Park on Monday night as Aaron Ramsey and his Aston Villa teammates lifted the FA Youth Cup.

The midfielder made his return from a month-long injury lay-off as a second half substitute as he helped the Young Lions beat Liverpool 2-1.

For Ramsey, it was the realisation of a dream he’d held since joining the Academy as a schoolboy.

He said: “I feel amazing. It was a target from the start of the season – all of us wanted to win this competition and now we’ve done it in front of the fans.

“It’s everything we’ve dreamed of. Last night, we all couldn’t get to sleep – I know I couldn’t. It’s a dream come true for us all.

“Since we were young we’ve always dreamed of winning the Youth Cup and we’ve done it today.”

For most academy players across the country, you get two chances to compete in the competition, which is for players aged between 15 and 18 on 31 August of that season.

He said: “Every Academy player dreams of winning the Youth Cup – everyone, no matter who you are.

“You only get two chances at it and for some of us this was our last chance. It’s a dream come true.

“To do it in front of the fans as well, it’s amazing. It was an amazing run and it ends a great season for all of us.”
