Kaine Kesler says Aston Villa’s team spirit will be crucial as they look to win the FA Youth Cup at Villa Park on Monday night.

The Young Lions have racked up the goals, scoring 26 times in five rounds, en route to the Final, where they will look to end the club’s 19-year wait to win the competition against Liverpool.

A number of the Villa team, including Kesler, won the Premier League Floodlit Cup in 2018, and the defender believes that winning mentality will serve them well.

He said: “The team spirit’s strong. Most of us have been together since we were younger, and we won the Floodlit Cup at Under-15s.

“Winning cups and winning games together is what we need to do. The team spirit, because it’s so good, helps us all the time.

“As long as we keep the confidence that I know we have, we’ve got a really good chance of winning.”

Opponents Liverpool have beaten Sutton United, Manchester United, Arsenal, Leicester City and Ipswich Town on their journey to the Final.

With fans in attendance at Villa Park, Kesler believes it’s set up to be a great occasion, and he’s confident Villa can come out on top.

“That’s what our team are really excited about. Having fans in the stadium is what everyone wants and I can’t wait to have them back,” he said.

“It would mean everything [to win the cup]. We’ve just got to keep our heads in the game. It’s 90 minutes now between us and lifting the trophy – that’s all we want to do.”
