Douglas Luiz made his first appearance of Copa América 2021 as Brazil drew 1-1 against Ecuador on Sunday night.

The Aston Villa midfielder started for the Seleção in Goiania and played 63 minutes as they completed their unbeaten Group B campaign top of the table on 10 points from their four fixtures.

Tournament hosts Brazil entered their final group stage fixture having already qualified for the knockout stages, but saw their impressive 10-game winning sequence come to an end.

Luiz and Brazil will now look forward to a quarter-final tie but must wait until Group A fixtures are complete to discover their opponents.

Eder Militao headed the home side into the lead in the 37th minute, only for substitute Angel Mena to level for Ecuador shortly after the break.

The point ensured Ecuador also secured their qualification for the last eight.
