Remi Allen has admitted holding a long-term admiration for Aston Villa after she was announced as the club’s second summer signing.

The midfielder has joined on a two-year deal having played a key role in Leicester City’s march to the FA Women’s Championship title last season.

Allen, 30, brings a wealth of experience to the club and is raring to go ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

“I’m dead excited,” Allen beamed.

“I can’t wait. I think it’s a fantastic club and one that I’ve admired for a long time.

“To see the progression and to be a part of that is brilliant. I want the season to get started now.”

The former Birmingham City and Reading midfielder has spent much of her career in England’s top flight and received a maiden call-up to England’s senior squad in 2014.

Often operating in the middle of the field, Allen wants to use her previous experiences to help her new team-mates.

“Anyone that can come in and bring experience like myself is important,” the midfielder stated.

“I’ll be leaning on all the experience I’ve got to help the youngsters and keep us progressing in the right direction.

“Villa lost momentum quite early on (last season) and it took a while to get back on track.

“We’ve got to concede less goals and we have to try and find a way of scoring goals.

“It’s a difficult combination, but I’m confident we can do that.”

This season, Allen will play in front of fans for the first time in well over a year.

And the 30-year-old gave us a glimpse of what to expect at the Banks’s Stadium come September…

“Hard-working. Aggressive. A desire to win,” she said confidently.

“I’m vocal, so they’ll (the fans) probably hear my voice a lot!

“I try to be calm in possession, keep the ball and make things happen.

“A box-to-box midfielder… hopefully I can produce all of that.”
