Ollie Watkins spoke of his delight at getting on the scoresheet against Newcastle United after going nine games without a goal.

Villa’s leading scorer this season could count himself extremely unfortunate not to have found the net since early November.

But he finally bagged the goal his performances deserved as he netted his ninth of the season against the Magpies to set Villa on their way to a 2-0 victory.

Recalling his close-range header, the smiling striker told VillaTV: “They’re the ones I want, really.

“Matt Targett has crossed it in and I was thinking ‘I’m not going to get there’ and it’s just popped up off the defender’s shin.

“As soon as it was in the air, I knew I was going to score.

“I’m delighted to get a goal after a bit of a drought.

“I felt like I’ve been a little bit unlucky but I’ve kept getting in there and got the goal here so I’m happy with that.”
