Ross Barkley was delighted to get the matchwinning goal which secured all three points as Aston Villa triumphed 1-0 at Southampton.
Barkley’s first-half header, his third goal for the club, proved the difference at St Mary’s as Villa secured a first win over Saints in 10 meetings.
Success on the south coast ended a run of four away games without a win as Dean Smith’s side sealed their 10th Premier League triumph and clean sheet of the campaign so far.
Speaking to VillaTV post-match, Barkley said: “It was a great shift from the lads. A win that we needed.
“It’s never easy playing against Southampton, they’re a great side and have performed really well this season, as we saw earlier this season when we came up against them.
“It was much improved from midweek from the lads – three points and a clean sheet.”

Barkley, who started a fourth successive fixture as he steps up his fitness levels after a two-month spell on the sidelines, added: “It’s nice to get back on the scoresheet.
“I felt more like myself here. I’ve played more match minutes than I have on the training ground, so I’m feeling better about myself here.
“Going forward, I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
