Aston Villa Women visit Twerton Park for the second time this season on Wednesday evening, where they will face Bristol City in the quarter-finals of the FA Women's Continental League Cup.

Villa's confidence will be sky-high having beat the Vixens 4-0 in their last visit before the new year.

And Wednesday's contest represents a huge opportunity for Gemma Davies' side to reach the final four of the competition and a chance of reaching a final.

The team will be well rested, having not played in over four weeks.

Japan international Mana Iwabuchi could make her claret & blue debut on Wednesday night.

Wednesday's hosts will also see this tie as a decent chance of reaching a domestic cup semi-final.

Despite our 4-0 success there last month, we are City's closest rivals in terms of league positioning, something which could make for an evenly-fought encounter.

Despite their struggles in the top flight, Tanya Oxtoby's side topped their Conti Cup group and will be fully determined to book their spot in the final four.

Mana Iwabuchi

Mana Iwabuchi signs for Villa Women

Aston Villa Women are delighted to announce the signing of Japan international Mana Iwabuchi from INAC Kobe Leonessa.

The 27-year-old forward will join Gemma Davies and her new teammates in January, having enjoyed previous stints at Nippon TV Beleza, Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich.

Iwabuchi, who is the captain of her national team, has over 70 senior caps and became a FIFA Women’s World Cup winner in 2011.

Head Coach, Davies said: “We are exceptionally excited that a player of Mana’s calibre will be joining us in January. Not only will she bring a wealth of experience to the squad, but she will also add a different dimension to our attacking play. She is a very technical player that thrives in tight spaces and we cannot wait to see her continue to develop at Aston Villa.

Sporting Director, Eni Aluko added: "We are thrilled that Mana will be joining Aston Villa Women in January. Mana is an exciting and creative goal-scorer who will bring World Cup-winning experience to the Club. I am delighted Mana has chosen to join Aston Villa Women to drive us forward in our Barclays FA Women’s Super League journey, whilst also choosing our elite environment to prepare for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics."

Iwabuchi will wear the number 20 for Aston Villa Women.
