Aston Villa’s battling youngsters enjoyed a night to remember despite a 4-1 defeat to Liverpool in their FA Cup Third-Round tie at Villa Park.
The Young Lions did the club proud against a strong and experienced Reds side and went into the interval level on terms courtesy of Louie Barry’s coolly-taken 41st-minute finish.
But the visitors, who controlled the encounter throughout, showed their quality with three goals in five second-half minutes.
Yet a young, hard-working and energetic Villa side, boasting an average age of just 18, could well and truly hold their heads high on a memorable night which saw a total of 16 players make their first-team debuts.
