Due to a Covid-19 outbreak, we haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Aston Villa play in the Premier League since New Year’s Day.

Thankfully, Villa will restart their league campaign in Gameweek 19 with a double-header against Manchester City and Newcastle United.

As Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, now could be the perfect time to jump back on Villa assets for the double Gameweek and beyond as they make up the fixtures they have missed.

Captain Grealish

Manchester United v Aston Villa

Jack Grealish (£7.7m) can be easily accommodated into many an FPL manager’s plans at his low price.

Couple his price tag with him being Aston Villa’s highest FPL scoring player so far this season and he looks like a great pick.

Grealish has an expected goals rating (xG) of 3.8 over the course of the season so far, alongside his expected assists (xA) of 5.02, resulting in an expected goal involvement (xGI) of 8.82.

All this means we should expect Grealish to be involved in a goal every 153 minutes – which looks promising going in to a double Gameweek.

El Bargain

Manchester United v Aston Villa

Prior to the recently enforced break, Anwar El Ghazi (£5.8m) had been on a fantastic run of form, only blanking in one of the four previous FPL Gameweeks and amassing a total of 34 points.

This is even more impressive when compared to Grealish, who registered 21 points over the same games.

El Ghazi also boasts an impressive xGI of 4.6, meaning he is expected to be involved in a goal every 104.6 minutes.

Ahead of a Gameweek containing 180 minutes for Villa, El Ghazi could be set for more FPL returns.

The Dutchman is second for shot accuracy in the £5-6m bracket for midfielders across the game. He is also joint-top for goals and sixth for goal attempts.

This is especially impressive considering he didn’t play at all until Gameweek 8 and didn’t start a game until Gameweek 13.

More defensive heroics?

Manchester United v Aston Villa

Even without playing in Gameweeks 1, 11 or 18, Emiliano Martinez (£5.1m) still sits top of the FPL pile for goalkeepers, a full four points ahead of Burnley’s Nick Pope (£5.4m) who has played a game more.

Martinez has made 53 saves so far this season, resulting in 13 additional save points for the Villa keeper, something which can make a huge difference for FPL managers.

Villa also sit joint-top for clean sheets with eight. Again, this is especially impressive considering the Villans have played less matches than any of their Premier League rivals.

Martinez ranks sixth out of regularly playing goalkeepers for goals conceded this season, thus his potential for points scoring makes him an excellent pick, even against Manchester City.
