Marcus Bignot has praised the overall performance of Aston Villa Women ‘off the back one (training session.'

Villa were beaten 4-0 by Chelsea at the Banks’s Stadium on Wednesday night in the first game of Bignot’s interim tenure.

Sam Kerr, Beth England, Pernille Harder and Magdalena Eriksson all found the net to secure Emma Hayes’ side the three points on the night, but there was a sense of competitiveness and defensive discipline that seemed to satisfy the Villa staff.

“Obviously, disappointed by the 4-0 scoreline” said Bignot.

“In reflection, tonight’s not going to define our season.

“What I’ve seen tonight is encouraging in terms of moving forward with this group.”

The 46-year-old coach was also keen to point out certain aspects of Villa’s performance which can be taken into upcoming fixtures.

“Really pleased with our off-the-ball organisation” said Bignot.

“In the second half we grew into the game and I thought we had some big moments.

“I want to see that transfer into the game on Sunday. We’ll take the positives from tonight and move in the right direction ahead of Arsenal.”
