John McGinn praised Aston Villa’s “grit, determination and desire” as they claimed a battling 1-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road.
Villa registered their 12th victory this term courtesy of Anwar El Ghazi’s early strike, his seventh of the season, before standing firm to restrict Leeds and record another hard-earned clean sheet.
And McGinn was delighted to travel back down the M1 with all three points, which takes Villa on to 39 from 24 matches.
Speaking to VillaTV post-match, he said: “It’s not an easy place to come.
“They came to Villa Park and put three past us so here we had to put it right.
“We got the goal early on and, what we showed was grit, determination and desire, and I’m sure everyone back at home, and everyone in the dressing room is delighted with a massive three points.”
McGinn added: “We’ve got it in us to make this a special season, a few bad performances in the last few weeks, everyone has been involved in that.
“But here it was about rolling our sleeves up, Anwar showing a bit of quality in the first half and after that it was just flinging bodies on the line and doing anything it took to get the three points. And thankfully we did that.”
