Frédéric Guilbert made a match-winning contribution on his league debut for RC Strasbourg on Sunday, by providing the assist for his team's 84th minute winner against their main rivals FC Metz.

Strasbourg arrived at Stade Saint-Symphorien for Derby de l'Est having gone winless in their last four Ligue 1 games but Guilbert - who made the first appearance of his loan spell against Montpellier last Wednesday in the Coupe de France - helped his side a vital three points on the road.

Thomas Delaine gave Metz the lead early on but Adrien Thomasson equalised before the break, and the French winger went on to score the decisive goal when he converted Guilbert's inch-perfect cross with just six minutes remaining.

The result means that Strasbourg are now six points clear of the relegation play-off spot in Ligue 1, which is currently occupied by FC Nantes.

Ally Samatta's Fenerbahce bounced back from the disappointment of defeat to Galatasaray last time out by beating Fatih Karagümrük 2-1 on Saturday.

Former Premier League forwards Enner Valencia and Fabio Borini were both on the scoresheet at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium with Valencia's strike early in the second half providing decisive, while Samatta came on as a substitute for the final 18 minutes.

The result takes Fenerbahce level on points with their biggest rivals, but Galatasaray remain top of the Turkish Süper Lig thanks to their superior head-to-head record.

Ben Guy was an unused substitute as Portadown drew 1-1 against Cliftonville in Northern Ireland, while elsewhere several of our loanees weren't in action due to a raft of postponements.

Conor Hourihane (Swansea City), Lovre Kalinic (Hajduk Split), Viljami Sinisalo (Ayr United), Dominic Revan (Weymouth), Cameron Archer (Solihull Moors), Jack Clarke (Chesterfield) and Callum Rowe (Hereford) all saw their respective games called off.

Tyreik Wright (Walsall) and Indiana Vassilev (Cheltenham Town) were also affected but the two Villa loanees are now set to go head-to-head in League Two on Tuesday night at the Banks's Stadium, kick-off: 7pm.
