John McGinn has been named Scotland Men’s Player of the Year for 2021.

The popular Aston Villa midfielder has enjoyed a memorable 12 months for his nation and been duly rewarded with the honour.

Having been shortlisted among six nominees, McGinn scooped the award following a public vote for supporters.

McGinn played every minute of Scotland’s historic UEFA Euro 2020 campaign over the summer.

He also scored four times in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying as the Tartan Army secured a play-off spot, which they will contest in March next year.

His first international goal of 2021 was a stunning overhead kick to earn a 2-2 draw against Austria, before he scored twice in a 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands.

McGinn captained his country during their friendly win over Luxembourg prior to Euro 2020 and scored against Israel in September to help Steve Clarke's side maintain a winning run which has now extended to six matches.

Huge congratulations, John!
