Gemma Davies says her Aston Villa side know they ‘weren’t good enough’ as a group on Saturday.
Villa lost 6-0 to table-topping Everton at the Banks’s Stadium, a result which leaves Davies and co. without a point after three games in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
The Head Coach gave a typically honest assessment of her team’s performance on the day:
“We know, collectively, we weren’t good enough today” explained Davies.
“We weren’t at it.
“It’s disappointing, it’s frustrating.
“We know, collectively, we need to be better.
“That very much was the message at the end of the game.”

Davies was quick to point out the quality possessed by Everton on Saturday, not as an excuse but more of a point of admiration and a benchmark to aspire towards for her own group of players.
“Credit needs to be given to Everton.
“They’re a fantastic side.
“They’ve been building something really special over the last season or so.
“They challenged us, they tested us, and we didn’t match that today.
An underlying theme across all three of Villa’s games this season has been the conceding of multiple goals in quick succession.
Games have often been put out of reach before Villa have had time to react, and that is something Davies says comes down to adaptability.
“As a group, we have to adapt to the situation in front of us.
“We can’t plan and prepare for every eventuality and every scenario.
“A lot of the work we do leading up to fixtures is principle-based, which helps us deal with whatever scenario is put in front of us.
“We have to adapt on the day.”
