Asmita Ale says Aston Villa’s heads ‘went down’ after Everton’s first goal on Saturday.

Gemma Davies’ side were ruthlessly beaten 6-0 by the table-topping Toffees at the Banks’s Stadium, leaving the Villans without a point after three games in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The hosts hung on for 20 minutes until the floodgates opened, and Ale claims the group lost confidence soon after.

“We were flat as soon as soon they scored the first goal” said the full-back.

“Our heads went down, and we lost confidence.

“We’re going to need to work on that for the next game, so we’re going to focus on that.”

Ale insists it is down to the whole group to improve, and that starts on the training pitch.

“We did say that we were coming to come out (of half-time) and be better because it wasn’t good enough from anyone.

“We need to work harder and improve in training.”

Villa have conceded goals in bunches in all three league games thus far, amplifying the step-up in quality from the Championship to the Super League.

Ale, however, claims this is something Villa were aware of heading into the new campaign and admits it is within their control to stop.

“We knew how ruthless this league could be from the start of the season.

“We’ve played against some really good teams.

“Everton were extremely good today and their finishing was too.

“We need to stop the opposition getting shots off and we need to be better defensively as well.”
